Looking to take my 2 nephews out on the ice tomorrow for their first time out. They have finally got into fishing this season and have been wanting to try ice fishing. Im looking to get the into it and keep interest. Im assuming most of the ice in the boston area is pretty safe. I heard about the Forge pond incident and know to stay away from moving water.

if anyone can please let me know about any spots where they will be able to chase some flags so they keep interested. Not looking for any secret spots or anything but just for some helpful tips to keep them moving around and so they dont lose interest and give up on ice fishing.

Ive only been fishing on the ice for a bout a year so I dont know too much about it besides the basics but just trying to get a 9 and 10 year old away from their nintendo for a nice day out.

Thanks for all the help

The middle pond at Cochituate or Walden pond.

Walden might be the better bet for catching fish but weather and temps tomorrow might make ice fishing risky as the day progresses.

High temps plus rain leads to rotten ice.

Recommend that everyone has claws and a life line. Life vests for the kids is also a good idea.

Good luck and stay safe.

It may be a good idea to pick a small pond that you know has bass or sunfish or whatever you are targeting in it. If you know of a 2 acre lake with fish in it, it's not too hard to come across a few.
