Sean and I decided to switch it up a bit and check out a nearby river system that we've been wanting to fish all year. The water was low, way low and before launcing the boat I wasn't feeling good about our chances. We decided to run up river and fish a few spots I fished many years ago. The plan was to target pike with swimbaits but if we caught bass it would just be an added bonus. Well we each got a decent bass but the pike eluded us. I figured that on an overcast, rainy, cool, and crappy morning they would be chewing but I was wrong. I did miss one really good hit, almost ripped the rod out my hands, but somehow the fish missed the hooks? We also kept getting little bumps, like the fish were just bumping the bait or nibbling the tail but not fully committing to eating the bait? Not sure what they were? I thought about throwing a rubber bait to see if they would eat that but never did. All in all it wasn't a bad day, Sean and I each caught our first decent bass in November on a swimbait and we explored some newer waters. Sean did manage to wipe out a blade on his prop on the ride back to the ramp.
