If you do not own a boat then get yourself a pair of waders! Most ponds down that way can be fished that way. Fishing from shore is very difficult due to limited spots.
I agree. Shoreline can be hard to find at a lot of bodies of water, especially if they're not lakes in reservations or parks where there tends to be lots of people.
