I do, but not till about March. Usually I can find open water in Boston to fish in Jan and Feb. Frozen guides and ice do a number on line so I will hold out as long as I can before putting fresh line on. I probably end up needing to respool again by late summer. It all depends on how much I use each rod.
For braid I use power pro and one thing I do through out the year is take a sharpie and color in the line when it fades. And never store line where is could get effected by extreme temps or gets any light.
