So this is my second summer fishing, and I finally got a jointed Rapala. It has nice action etc, but the problem is I can't cast it more than 15 or 20 feet. What's the problem?

I've tried on a couple different setups and same problem. Any tips would be appreciated.

8lb flourocarbon on a spinning rod, atleast 6'6" long

The first lure I learned and still one of my favorites. It does not go as far as some lures as far as casting but it sounds like the line you are using is to heavy and possible the rod to short.

I like a long soft action spinning rod for this lure and I never toss it on more than 10lbs copoly/mono 8lbs floro or my new favorite way fireline 10lbs with a copoly leader.

i fish em with a st. croix premier 6'6" medium light. 8# suffix braid. not sure how far i can get em out, but it's much farther than 20 feet.

That's exactly the problem. One setup my line is too heavy, the other setup the rod is too short. I'll put lighter line on my back shimano spool. Thanks guys!
