I was looking into some soft of power pole system for a jonboat and came across the Stick It Brake.

Anyone have any experience with these types of systems? It looks like a good manual system in theory but I definitely have concerns. It's just a pole that sticks into the bottom. Would it actually hold in the bottom and keep a fully loaded jonboat from drifting in the wind?

Talk to your buddy Matt. He has developed one. I was supposed to get one from him but it never happened. HEY MATT WHERE THE HELL IS MY POWER POLE!!!

You said pole

Power Pole is also introducing the 'micro power pole' at ICAST 2013. There's a bit of press on it, including a you tube video. Look pretty good for flat water Skiffs. I imagine it leverages the weight of the boat to some degree to get a good set. I'd wanna try it out on anything lighter 1st.

thanks guys. i think i remember him mentioning something actually so i'll give him a call.

but damn, that mico power pole system looks money.

Agreed. The manual one is pricey as well for what it is. For $75 could probably make 7 or 8 'pole mounts' out of PVC and misc hardware.

I bet if you put your thinkin cap on you could go to Home Depot and figure out how to make one for a lot cheaper than that.

seems like a similar setup...just electric. would that manual stick it pole hold in place effectively? home depot is ultimately the plan if i go manual. it just seems too good to be true that a pole jammed into the bottom would hold a boat in place so i was interested in knowing if that sort of setup really does work before i waste time or money.

What do you think a power pole is? A pole jammed in the bottom by a piston. Jam it yourself and save the money. Matt has 80 of them poles. I bet he's looking to make a deal. Ohhhhh Maaaaaaaa AAAATTT

I have a pretty beefy kayak stakeout pole that would do the trick on a jon boat as well. You do have to be able to get enough length and leverage on it to drive it into the sand or muck. The electric one does it for you. I would probably try a length of 2" PVC mounted to the side of the boat with 2 conduit clamps, one directly above the other for rigidity. Drop the pole into the PVC pipe, drive it into the sand or muck, and give it a try. Just be careful on smaller boats not to get caught up in a real strong current that would pull/push the boat under where it's staked down....that's why they tether the pole to the boat from a length of rope, often thru an anchor trolley, rather than mount them directly to the hull.on kayaks

You might need some type of metal spike to drive into the ground but if they can hold a 21 ft ranger I bet you can make it hold a Jon boat. I'm making one for my boat soon too.

thanks guys. i may just cut a pole at an angle to drive it deep into the bottom. a nice bracket / clamp will be the tricky part but these are good ideas and i'll look around.

My cousin put a power pole on his 14ft jon. Pump and everything, its pretty sick. He says when its down its like walking on his kitchen floor.
