. I would say bait casting tackle is more suitable for Carolina rigging ,and big topwaters.I can see if your throwing a real lite Carolina rig 1/4 or less . Other wise bait casting tackle is the way to go .I am surprised you think a 4000 series is too large for bass. I have a 25 series that seems very small. I have been using the 4000 series Saros for 2 years and never thought it was too big. Also have 3 penn 4500's that I am fazing out. Maybe it is my saltwater background. but I prefer the bigger handle and the more line pick up of the bigger reel
I have 4000 size spinning reels but I use them for Carolina rigging and bombing big top waters like spooks and buzzjets. You need a lot of 12-14lb mono to be able to cast far and the 4000 size fits the bill for that.
