I think we got the same stuff as well, I got a swim jig thing from Gambler that has lead and a secret lures swim bait/frog hook with lead. That form of lead is illegal in our lures too? Like spinnerbaits have lead in some of the heads, are these gambler ones illegal too?

Thats what I got

i read on another forum an email reply a guy got back from the state about spinnerbaits saying that they are perfectly legal with lead. it stated that spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, chatterbaits and a few other things made with lead are still legal to use in ma because they are not jigs or weights. as for underspins though im unsure, i would hope they are still legal cause there aint noone local making tin underspins that i know of

Does anyone know how a Fish and Game warden could tell if a jig is lead or not? I have no intentions of changing either way just curious

Lol. I was actually told to paint the remainder of my lead jigs with a heavy coat of either epoxy or clear nail polish cause one of the ways they can tell is by rubbing ur jighead on a piece of paper to see if it leaves a lead mark also because lead is so soft you can scratch it with ur fingernail that the epoxy would leave a hard coating on the jig so it can't be scratched or smooshed so easy. I got 2 different jig boxes now " lead" and " no lead" I'm not throwing my lead jig's out I plan on using them til they are gone just at secluded bodies of water that I know game wardens don't visit I will however not be as carefu about losing them cause at some point id like to have all " legal" jigs lol. My tin jigs are what ill be bringing to the likes of wachusett and such. Sure as hell not gonna just throw out or stop using 60 dollars worth of lead jigs though lol

Fishing at wachusett and got checked he had a magnet on him and checked my weights. He was actually shocke because the steel egg sinkers I had were well rusted and said that shouldn't be happening. Maybe if they see more rusted steel weights they will lift the ban. What's better saving a few birds or adding toxins to drinking water?

Sadly, the guys enforcing the laws aren't the ones writing the laws.

Was just thinking what could he have done if you had lead? Nothing , for one the ban didn't go into effect until well after wachusett was closed for winter and 2 its not illegal to buy,own or have lead in your possession so he couldn't have done a thing.

I have only heard of guys getting checked for lead. Actually more than i would have thought and as recently as a week ago. Wardens checking out on the ice.
It scares me that wardens think steel wont rust. That's just stupid!
Lead free baits cant be checked with a magnet. They are non ferrous.
A powder coated lead jig can't be scratched on paper or fingernail to check.
I have never been given an educated answer how they can check our tackle.
I think the fine is $50.00 for using lead. Buy using lead i mean having intent. This would be if you have lead on a rod in use or set-up in possession.
I don't think it's illegal to carry.

I also sold all my lead tackle on craigs list very easy when i decided to start Boag Hog Baits.

Disclosure: i am not a warden or know one. These are miscellaneous bits of info i have been told. Right or wrong Very Happy

I believe led was not allowed at wachusett even before the law went into affect. I know that's the case at the Quabbin. (Just sinkers)

I think the underspin lure counts as a Spinner Bait as described here:

http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/recreation/fishing/lead_sinkers_loons.htm

Unfortunately, the weighted Frog Hook counts as a jig, defined as:

"any lead-weighted hook weighing less than 1 ounce."

I recieved the same box with a couple lead items. I'll have to mail them back and let him know to send non lead Boag Hog materials.

Anyone ever order anything from the store? I order some things a few weeks ago and still waiting for them. I emailed them about it and they said it was going to be shipped the 20th, but still waiting. I did get my grab today. Pretty much got the same things as everyone else.
