I caught the 10 lber on may 20 of last year. Almost exactly one year ago.

like I said, I never had much luck over there. Its very deep. In the warm weather it is notorious for swimming. Lots of girls in bikinis and sometimes less. I have not fished there often so I guess it could be an ok spot. I was there last year and there were people diving of turtle rock. A helicopter came flying over the lake and hovered 50 feet above the rock and yelled at the swimmers via loud speaker. It was insane.

Try it out sometime, you know spot is hit or miss. I agree with you that there are HUGE bass in there. I have seen them.

Is the 10 lb bass in your profile ? I think you fish the ledges over by the memorial where a swimmer drowned ?

Yes, it is in my profile. There are two pictures of em in their. I have a theory as to why there are such big fish in Spot Pond. First off, there is a HUGE population of crayfish in there. I read about a study done ( I forget where it was, but I'll try and track it down) where two seperate groups of bass were given two different diets. The first recieved a diet of only blugill sunfish. The second group were fed only crayfish. The group that was fed crayfish gained an average of 5 lbs while the group that was fed only bluegills gained a half a pound. Also Spot Pond wasn't open for fishing until 2001. These two things combined may be a big part of the reason why Spot Pond has such big bass.

And yes that is exactly where I do alot of my fishing when I'm at Spot Pond. The place where the cross and wreaths are, right?

yep thats the spot. I also think the crayfish theory is accurate. I think thats one of the reasons fishing is tough in there. They have so many crayfish to gorge on, they dont have to look hard to eat.

That area by the cross and wreath, 5 years ago every night thousands and I mean thousands of bass would cruise in that area, It was unreal. Last few years..NOTHING, no schools. The place is strange and tough to figure out. No cover, super clear water. I've done well in the past, several 5 + and a 4 3/4 smallie.

I agree, it is a very tough place to fish. There's the very clear water, lack of structure, and the rocks. You are going to lose alot of lures, and even fish, to those rocks. Flourocarbon is by far the best way to go when fishing there. Fish can't see it, it sinks, which helps get your lure deep down, and you need that abrasion resistance. Those rocks will just sheer braid in a second. I learned that the hard way, after losing many jigs and a very decent bass that I will never know the weight of. Also, since there's not much structure, you need to fish things like the ledges. And that is very hard to do without a boat. A few years ago, before I knew it was illegal to bring your own boat, me and my buddy took his little two seat bass boat out there. It was amazing how many bass we could see just hanging out in the shallow coves. Besides the huge amount of bass we saw, there were also dozens and dozens of what looked like 5+lb fish. I myself have pulled two fives out of there (in addition to the ten) and my brother one. So, yes it is a hard place to fish, but if you put in the time you'll most likely be rewarded with a decent size bass.

The funny thing about putting our boat in Spot Pond that first time was the state police showed up while we were launching. They said nothing about not being able to put your own boat in. All they did was tell us we couldn't leave our truck parked where it was. They even showed us a good spot to park it!!

Haha that's funny. Was that before the MDC and state police combined? That could be why. The stateie might not have known anything about the pond. And as far as flurocarbon goes, I put some on one of my reels the other day, and it seems like it doenst cast nearly as far as mono

So, i think i -finally- found Turtle Rock, can anyone confirm?

I am pretty sure that is Pickerel Rock (a.k.a. Turtle Rock). Was just there today. No luck. My buddy got a nice little 3 lber out of 1/4 mile pond on the walk out though.

what brand flouro? some are notoriously tempermental. I started using the spiderwire flourocast. Its a little expensive $15-20, but really worth it. It fishes awesome. Casts great. low memory and stretch, and is very strong. Id pay the extra 5 for it. Youll be straight all year with it.
