Typically when I fish for pike I use mepps spinners so getting my line bit off isn't an issue. With the spinners they usually don't bite that far up since I'm reeling it in so fast. Recently I was fishing for bass and I caught a really nice pike on a senko. Since then I have been using senkos for pike. The pike tend to bite the line with a senko because of how slow it moves. Just today I was pike fishing using 50 lb. braided line. The pike bit right through my line. I don't want to use a wire leader with the senko since that would ruin the action of the lure. What other kind of leader can I use to prevent the pike from biting through my line without ruining the action of a senko.
Try flouro...a little more abrasion resistant than mono and almost invisible (according to the 'pros'). Pike teeth go right through braid, as you've learved, but flouro should be a little better. I run a 5' or 6' leader of 25lb test on almost all of my set-ups.
