I'm currently using fluorocarbon line on both my baitcaster and spinning reels - I love it. It's much more sensitive than mono, but has relatively comparable handling properties. It does sink though, so it's not ideal for topwater baits, but I have used it with them too.
I love its abrasion resistance, which in my experience, is better than braid, even though it's not as strong as braid, proportionately-speaking.
It's supposedly much less visible underwater as well - but whether that's true or just marketing hype, I have no way of knowing.
I have 12# fluoro on my baitcasting reel and 8# on my spinning reel.
