complete rip off

Sorry you feel like that, but $50 bucks isn't bad to some people. I'll spend over $100 tomorrow in fuel alone fishing a T in NH. I fish Barehill in Harvard MA, all the time. They have a ramp fee of $25 that discourages unserious fishermen, but that's good. We have a T there every May, 12 boats , all limits, lots of 4s, one guy w a 5/12 an6/3. 20 lbs total, easy 20 fish a day, no dinks

I love spot pond but the boating prices are insane. You can rent a gas boat on the Q for the day for half the price. Its a monopoly over there at spot and trust me I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I agree w you 100%, I didn't mean to come off like that. I just get that idea of just trying it once, every year. I know some guys that have done the kayaks and got some nice 3-4 # smallies off the islands. Your right though, it's not like those boat rentals are sold out every week, a realistic price would make a big difference, monopoly too, hate that. Some competition would make it affordable, I would invest $ myself. Anyone interested in looking into it? Another thought , I went back yesterday , they are selling off all the kayaks. They all look beat , even though they are 1 yr old!!!! AND the prices are NO BARGAIN, about $100 less than buying one new,,, rip off. Another example of government running things inefficiently. I'll see Monday if they sold.

yup you can rent a boat at the Quabbin for 46 bucks from 6-6 with a gas motor. That spot pond boat rental is a rip. They used to be free

How's the fishing at quabbin, does it have the potential of a 10#er like spot does

Posted Sat Oct 06, 2012 4:35 pm

Spot is a ripoff......35hr for a row boat...lol kayaks 25hr. u fish there one full day you can buy a boat

Spot has big fish but you def need a boat to find them. I dont think you can compare it to Quabbin in any way.

I have a half dozen or so 5 lb plus out of spot and a 4.5 smallie. I would not doubt a 10 pounder in spot but dont get your hopes up. There are a few members here who claim 10's out of spot, but sorry I need proof when 10's are claimed. No doubt at all HUGE fish in there.

Good luck, report back to us how it goes.

There's potential for a 10 at the Q and some serious smallie action but you can probably fit spot in there 3 times or more. Good luck I'd love to see you come up with a 10

spot pond = 340 acres

Quabbin res = 38.6 square miles = 24320 acres

so you could fit 71 spot ponds in Quabbin

I fish Spot after work all the time and on weekends but have only caught anything worthwhile after dusk. For some reason buzz baits and spinners drive the SMB in there nuts at night, but they bite at NOTHING in daylight. Which is problematic because they ticket you there at dusk. I'm dying to take a boat out there but won't out of spite because of the absurd prices.

I may fish Spot tomorrow by shore. $50 is just way too much for a row boat that if the wind blows won't be too much fun. If you bail on the boat I'll probably be the guy walking around with 2 rods.

Hopefully the boat works out for you today. Only got one bite all morning on Spot, but she was a four. Place is a tough, but there are definitely giants in there.
