Not buying it and never did! The bass simply don't get that big up here. Nothing even close has been "officially" reported" since. Balonas is supposedly dead, so we will never know the real story.

That fish looks like a Monster to me....wow! The girth is crazy- thanks for posting the photo Rich. I heard it was caught ice fishing in Carver MA using perch as bait...not sure if that's true. To me, it's tough to doubt the weight....wouldn't it have been certified if it's consider the state record? Either way the thing is a freak of nature!

Thanks Rich for digging that picture up....I agree with you....that fish is not 15 plus lbs....11 lbs max I would say....just the approximate length doesn't seem to fit weight.... strange looking belly on that big girl too....

I dont think Rich was doubting the weight of the actual record fish. he was referring to the recent supposed 15 lb fish caught thats not even close.

The fish was caught in the Agwam through some very thin ice. It wasnt caught in Carver, Plymouth, Florida, Texas, Gerogia or the Moon. There is pretty credible information floating around amoung those who are familiar with the Plymouth/Wareham area about Walter's fish.

As for any theories that the fish was caught down south and brought up to MA to smash the state record.....Lets try to use our brains here for a second. The bass was caught in 1975, no one gave two shits about bass fishing in 1975. Why on earth would someone go to the trouble and expense to obtain a 15lb bass and then get it up here?????

The fish is legit, it is a true freak of nature!!

Just a year after the 15lber was caught, a 13 lber was caught in the same general geographical location. There is also a 12lber on the list from the 60's and mulitple 11lbers

Were rulers different back then too because length and girth are given for the fish

The thing that was different back then was the fishing pressure. Fish could grow bigger with less pressure and people kept and ate the fish they did catch thus allowing for more food to be available to the remaining fish.

That and totally awesome fisherman like Stratos were not around yet to catch everything

If that black and white photo on the thread is the picture, that's a 15-lb fish.

I've seen enough 10-lb largemouths in MA. There are 15 pounders in MA out there.
