Low Test Braid

Does anybody have any opinions on low test braided line? Somewhere between 10-20lb (2-6 mono). I have a light setup and the mono I've been spooling has been a nightmare, constantly getting wind knots and severely twisted. I've had much better luck with braided in the past so I thought maybe a low test braid would be the answer. This particular setup is for lures in the 1/4 oz range and the rod is a 6' microlite. What say you?

I just started using the new Berkeley nanofill, the stuff is so far amazing. I use the twelve pound test which is I think a four pound test diameter. Expensive it's $19.99 for a 125 yard spool. But I highly recommend.

I use 10 lb braid on all my spinning setups. biggest problems with light braid is it gets limp with use and loses its color. this causes the line to wrap around the rod tip a lot if you throw weightless plastics. I have tried them all except premium stuff and have gone back to powerpro original exclusively. it starts out stiffer and stays that way longer. suffix performace is also good but its breaking strength is questionable since it is thinner..

forgot to make you a recommedation for general use, it would be 15 lb powerpro

Those are some definitively positive responses! Ordered 150 yards of 15lb powerpro. let's see how it goes!

I use 20# powerpro on one of my spinning rods. I've had pretty good results with it

johnny is that nanofil a fused line or does it have a braided texture? I haven't tried that one.

Power Pro, Power Pro Slick 8 and Fireline are on sale at Dick's this week Nice article in In-Fisherman magazine this month about this very subject Supposedly tough to get a knot to hold with Nanofil, other than that good reviews.

I ended up getting Spiderwire Stealth Hi-Vis Yellow 15lb/4. I'll post a review after I fish it the first time.

I've never been a braid person, but this year put some 10lb suffix braid one of my spinning reels to see how I like it. So far it's been great for cranks. It's almost like cheating. You can really horse them in with ease, although I did lose a couple lures when the line got weak at the knot, which makes me think it might be smart to go to a thicker line (or at least check the knot after every fish).

So you can go with 15-20-30lb braid and it's the equivalent of 10lb mono thickness wise? Does it still cast the same as the thinner mono equivalent?

Does anyone go with colors beyond the green?

Also, any issues fishing with soft plastics? (cough, cough, senkos) Would using a floro leader be better for that, or does it really matter?

just some more info on this subject. taez555 found out what I suspected about suffix, good line but if you want to use it get a higher lb test than normal. I use braid with no leader for plastics but retie at least every trip, pickerel will kill it. don't get powerpro red it will turn white. powerpro slick is the smoothest stuff you ever saw and casts a mile but -- it turns into thread real quick and the so called tight weave seams to open up easy..

When i use braid its typically for just top waters, 25 pound braid is solid. If your using it for other applications though you should use a leader of some kind whether its mono or flouro. If you dont your gonna spook bass away from your lure, especially something big. If you can use a baitcaster then use that over a spinning reel when using braid.

i love the 10lb Fireline (i think its Berkley) it doesnt get beat up much and when it gets "birds nest" in my spinner it always pulls right out on the first try. though i find myself constantly watching the spool to make sure the line is even and tight wen just tossing power worms with no weights.

I've been fishing PLine CXXX and IzorLine this year, mostly 4, 6 and 8 lb test. The Pline is mono, the Izor is a copolymer. The Izor does great at 4 and 6 on a small spool once you set in. It needs a few casts under weight. I start with a hookless spoon just to get the line tight and arranged well.

Pline has done well in 6, 8 and even 10 with heavier lures once it's set. The only time I get a birds nest is when I don't pay attention, the lure hits the water and I forget to set the bail right away. My fault entirely.

I just ordered a bunch of Izorline spools, 6, 8, 10 (I already has some at 4) and will be moving over to Izor for most of my reels. Pline I'm using for leaders at 12lb test mostly.

I've fished braid but am not really into it. But, I mostly fish light action, fast taper rods, 4 through 8 lb line and 10 or 12 lb on medium action rods, all fiberglass rods. Maybe it's just habit.

ive been trying the 10 pound nano fill ona 6ft meduim spining setup and its equaled bad very bad.. line is to small and light unless ur throwing heavy baits.
