Anyone know how this place fishes? I went there a few days ago with a friend of mine and caught nothing but small Crappie. Is this another place that used to hold big fish but got snuffed out by a fish kill from the surrounding bogs like Burrage Reservation area ? I heard it's supposed to hold some hogs. Confused

not sure but if it's a hog factory you'll probably either get a PM with details or hear crickets from those trying to hide their spots from getting blown up here lol

I've fished there for years. Used to be a great pond now it is average at best. This time of year it fishes terrible Exclamation It is a very good fall and early spring pond. I was there last week and the blue-green algae bloom is in full force. Disgusting Exclamation As bad as I have ever seen it. I won't go back there until the end of Sept. (A winter kill did Burrage in Exclamation )

Damn, that's a shame. I was wondering I didn't pick up anything but Crappie's; and small ones at that. Such a shame that so many places in the South Shore used to be excellent fisheries and due to winter fish kills, pesticide overflows from bogs/farms and general malpractice by the bucket brigades are now practically barren. It's tough, and kind of aggrivating having to always travel to find good Bass ponds. ie: Plymouth/Cape Cod area or Central/Western MA. Mad

I lied Exclamation I went back there this a.m. thinking the heavy rain may have dissipated the algae. It did a little, but it was still a slimy mess! Got one around 2.5 and only a couple of other strikes. Regretted going there right after I launched Exclamation Laughing Done Exclamation

Haven't been there in 2 years but it holds some good fish.We had a small tourney there a few years back with a 3 fish limit.14 pounds plus took it.You just need to know the spots.

On a side note, blue-green algae is toxic. It will cause skin reactions, burning eyes etc. I see people actually let their dogs swim in it Exclamation If they swallow enough of the water it can actually kill them Exclamation I know the "spots" , it comes down to whether or not you want to expose yourself to a toxic situation Exclamation

Ignorance can kill you, doesn't matter how smart you are or how much money you have.

lol ken!...I won that 3 fish tourney and I had never been there before....I asked ken where I could throw a frog around heavy weeds at 6am start and he said" go over there"...ok ken, t/y...so I went "over there"...started throwin the frog but noticed that the pads would ever soooo slightly move when the frog got close but nothing but turtle movement for sure right?....worked my way into a lil cove and got one lil keeper on a frog then another small hit on a frog but a miss...hmmmmmmmmm...back up bait was a weedless senko and that small bass slammed the senko.....hmmmmm lil bass aggressive on the senko but not the frog?...ok...lets work out of this cove and throw the senko where I saw that very tiny/sloooow pad movement...all that VERY small movement was really 3# to 5# bass that for some STUPID reason wanted the senko instead of the frog....go figure!....had 3 bass for 14.25# and lunker at 4.96#...ALMOST got bored catchin 3#'s...lol...easy 20#+ for 5 fish....the point I am trying to make is that one thing being a bass tournament guy is you learn to pay attention to EVERYTHING!

Bet that was awhile back! Those were the days, that's how that pond used to fish. Bass over 3lb are hard to come by today Exclamation

Why has the fish quality/quantity degraded so much? Overfishing by the bucket brigade? Or just kill off's due to cold/the cranberry bogs etc.

Amazingly I have never seen a fish kill there and the pond is only 10ft. deep at max. and suffers from serious algae blooms. Too many of the larger bass have been removed. The same thing happened with the calico (crappie) used to have numerous ones over a lb. The pond is still loaded with baitfish though, they are now all on the small side. I still like the pond, even though it is not what it once was.
