Are you shore fishing or do you have access to a boat?

Not much info to go on, every town has ponds that hold bass, If your kid can cast I would set him up with the shortest spinning rod you have and rig a 3" or 4"plastic worm weedless. You may need to weight it with a 1/8 oz. bullet weight or use a weightless Senko. This will keep him interested and the kids always want to reel it in. Trust me he will learn fast.
I took my neice when she was 5, she followed me around the pond and she had a blast she caught 4 bass that day including Lunker.

Look at the map view of your area and pick a pond. Almost every pond in the state has bass in it, just a matter of finding one you like.

We went to the nip today and fished the water was ice cold this morning. Well my son didnt catch his first bass unfortunately. He was using shiners and he got a hit and I told him you got a fish pull back the rod and set the hook and he just didnt and whatever hit it got a free meal and that was the only hit we had there. I had to drop him off at 1 and then I went out in the afternoon to spy pond and caught a 1.34 pound bass on a wacky rigged okeechobee magic senko. First bass caught on a worm yes!
