To who fished Merrimack river in Mass, what is the size of smallie and largie you have caught? Is there a decent population of black bass in the MA section, say from 2 to 4 pound range? I have searched web, all I see is 12-14 inch smallies at most. Thanks in advance.

Willy I don't know many guys on this forum that fish the Merrimack river, however if you ask about the Nashua river or the concord river you'd get 10 plus responses. Best of luck!

yup, what he said. First hand knowledge is the best and who doesn't like exploring new water?

yea, I fished Chelmsford section before. I was not impressed. It is a big river. Of course, some section is better than others. I searched internet about Merrimack bass fishing. Some said it is great and many good size bass. However, I can't find a decent size bass picture from MA Merrimack river. Some said there are all dinks. LOL. I guess I will try the Haverhill area this time.

Not everyone fish the same way, come on man you can't base something like this over reviews and pictures. When I fish In a tourny I pretend its just me there I don't ask ppl what they use and if they are biting. Everyone is different!!!!! Screw the web just explore like shawn said that will be your answer. Your trying to find a cheat sheet for the river and its not ganna benefit you

There are many choices. I am thinking Sudbury River/FairHaven too, it is close to my house. It is a shame I never been there. In general, I don't like river fishing. The reason I asked is that I want some productive water which is worth towing a boat there. If the place is good and I am not catching, then this is my problem. I don't need a cheat sheet. I need a honest opinion about this river. LOL.

Willy, That's a nice looking smallie in your profile pic. How much did it weigh?

Update: Hit Merrimack Haverhill section. Water Temp 52. Drive down to Ward Hill and more, hit couple rocks on slow speed. My skeg bended. Not a very big deal, it is due to replaced. $175 to weld another one when it fail off.

I want to fish the multiple bridge areas, but the current is so stong make it impossible to fish. In addtion, it is very snaggy near the bridge.

I had one fish and it feels like a b**** pickeral. I didn't even want to bring it to the boat. When I swing it to the boat, it unhooked itself and jumped right back in the river. It is a 14 inch SMALLIE. LOL.

heading out at this very moment for the Haverhill section. If in Haverhill, be very careful above downtown....ROCKS. The majority of fish are smaller, but my pal caught a 5 pound smallie friday...they are there and worth it if you put in the effort.

are you serious. So in other words, I am probably not telling the truth? I actually have a picture of the fish, but didn't think it would be appropriate to post a picture of somebody else without their permission. Gees, and I almost offered to meet you on the river one day to show you some hotspots. By the way, here is some truth if you want to believe it. Didn't get a damn bite this morning during our trip...sorry, don't have the pictures to prove it!

Wow Willy, a fast and definite way NOT to make friends in here. Hope that just came out the wrong way! "wnbassman" gives you some good advice, telling about how it is worth it (based on his buddy's experience) if you're careful fishing there and you diss him (or his bud). Why would you doubt a 5 lb smallie, since you said you have caught them around that size yourself and have a nice profile pic of one too? Maybe you haven't caught them before and you're holding up someone else's fish to make a nice profile pic? Sorry for butting in, but see how that seems kinda shitty? Not cool!
