I think I know what your problem is. When you click on the map to add a photo/hotspot nothing happens. I experience this problem, as well. My computer has a touch screen, and sometimes hitting the map on the screen with my finger works. I don't know if you have a touch screen, but maybe try double clicking on the map or something else. I've noticed the trip map takes persistence sometimes. If it still doesn't work, you can always post a trip without pics and just add pics separately through the "My Photos" option on the "My Account" tab. Hope this helped!
