Hello,

Fly fishing water(s) too far for me to drive now.

Was wondering: local Pond has Smallies, Largemouth, and Crappies.

Will any of the above three take a fly ?

if so, on the surface ? Or ?

What types, etc. ?

Thanks,
Bob

All of the above will devour flies! Smallmouth on a fly rod are a blast! Try this for some starter ideas:

Bob,

I noticed you are in Sudbury. The Assabet River and the Sudbury river both hold largemouth, a variety of pan fish, and, I believe, pike. You can catch them with a variety of streamers (muddler, wooly bugger, small cousers...and whatever else you have confidence in). I like to target them with frog imitations and poppers. These flies don't have to be big to catch decent fish.

Good luck.

Too far to drive ,eh.. I was going to suggest Quabbin Res..or the Chu /aka Wachusett Res. (gate 13/14/15.scarhill bluffs have PLENTY of casting room.Hit or miss out there, but it's fairly close to me.Real fish water ..you know it!.. buggers, popers, divers, muddlers, cray fish..all of the above will work.
