A recent thread had me thinking about finding new to me small ponds to fish. I have poked around on Google between where I live in Tyngsboro and Bolton where my buddy has a car topper. There are lots of interesting places. My question is what are you looking for when seeking out an ff the beaten path pond. Size? Location? Topography? Things to avoid?

Thanks.

Ahhh a favorite topic of mine.... I absolutely love small ponds! Not just for the fishing, but whats going on around to observe. You can find some of the best fishing in little ponds and don't think for a second you don't have a chance at a big fish. You just gotta determine if the pond is a healthy BOW or a stunted mess. Us living in MA we are lucky to have MANY places to fish big or small. Granted alot of them are for cranberry bogs, but you can still fish a good chunk of them. I like fishing ponds from 2 acres too 100. Anymore then that i don't consider it small. Just go to any body of water that isn't a legit puddle and throw a cast you'd be surprised at what you can pull out!

I've fished ponds that i could cast around in all directions. Never overlook a place that looks like it could have potential

this. another thing to avoid: places that are highly publicized with trips, pictures, really easy public access etc.

it's sometimes hit or miss, but sometimes you just need to give a place a shot. there are some bigger places that aren't great, and some puddles that have a lot of big fish or good average sized ones.
