Anybody going fishing tonight to try to get that first fish of 2015? I will likely hit a local pond (if it's not iced over) at 1 or 2 after my New Years party ends, to see if I can get something.

Well, my local pond was fine in the day (28 degrees), so I figured I'd be all set, but by 2AM (19 degrees) it was a half inch thick. I guess they freeze quicker than I thought. So I figured, hey, I'm not going to sleep anytime soon, so I decided to make a trip up to a local river. I grabbed my waders, fly rod, pack, and a handful of headlamps, and rove up to the river. Got there at about 3, and it was pitch black - glad I had so many headlamps! So anyways, I fished in the pitch black for a few hours, and got one trout at 3:45 on an egg fly! So I've checked the first fish of the year off my list!
