I am fairly new to the area and was wondering if the fishing is any good in the winter on bodies of water with partial or no ice. I do not own a boat so shore fishing is my only option. Any suggestions on location, baits, techniques, etc in the cold weather would be helpful.
What part of the state are you in? I fished at Spot Pond in Stoneham in December and had a few trout follow in a Mepps spinner from shore. I know that lake is completely open right now, so you might give that a try. The weather then was pretty similar to the weather lately. I don't often fish for trout, so I don't know if that was the best option as far as lures go in that weather, but I at least had a few follows.
