Fall is windy season. How do you decide wind is too strong lake is too rough for fishing? For example, wind speed 15MPH, wind gust 25MPH, will you still go out?

25mph gusts is my limit

Wind has never stopped me from going out. having said that there are variables at play. if I am in a bass boat, I will go just about anyplace . I once fished a club tourney on Webster in a ligit Hurricane about 10 years ago give or take a couple years. I don't remeber the exact year but it was in Sept. and the fishing was GOOD.
Just get out there and find a section of the lake that is out of the full force of the wind.
If I am in a cartopper like a crawdad then I will pick a pond that is small or a river that is narrow with lots of turns and bends so at many points, I will be out of the direct wind.

when the water is getting in your boat Very Happy

I LOVE the wind in the fall.. If there's one rule i stand true by is always be in the wind. Im actually looking forward to some of these intense windy days

Some of my biggest fish in numbers have came from super high wind late fall days.. Two years ago nailed two MONSTERS back two back with a chatterbait.. Weird part was the big fish in some ponds will school up and get aggressive?? crazy..

when it gets too difficult to actually fish a spot and water's spilling over the boat.

or when it's too windy to blast shawn with gas.

I love wind except the kind Sam creates. No Mexican food or boneless buffalo wings tonight. Have some pasta

I fish out of a car topper 99% of the time. Wind to us equals whitecaps and waves. We fish regardless and look for the obvious bends and twists and islands, etc as Rich mentioned earlier. We do take on water as do most and bail as needed. Luckily for us we only semi sank about 5 feet from shore at Billington Sea this season for the first time ever. Our boat (Pelican 10e) was still floating, despite being slightly submerged. So I guess I'm saying that as long as we're floating and not taking on too much water, we're fishing! I could be wrong, but I don't ever remember NOT fishing because of it being too windy. It sucks to fish in when too strong, but we tough it out regardless.

Being a tourney fisherman ,you really don't have a choice you go when it's on . That can mean rain snow or whatever the nastiest I ever fished was a bad nor'Easter on Long Pond Lakeville blowing 25 to 30 with gust to 45 but the bass were biting....Champlain was another couple of tough one. I only remember 2 tourneys ever being called because of win one was a real hurricane and I think it was a ABA and another was a federation 2nd day for something don't remember where.Suck it up Buttercup
