I started to use crankbaits last year and I have had little success. I bought the 7' fiberglass rod loaded up on KVD's lipless crankbaits and have not caught many fish over two pounds.

I have so much confidence in plastic I don't stick with crankbait too long.

What's your go to crankbait? How do you fish it?

What's your favorite crankbait? How

KVD 1.5 sexy shad squarebill. I'll start just cranking steady but will vary my retrieve until I find what they like. It's been my go to crankbait. I've barely thrown a lipless crank this year and haven't caught anything on it.

Rapalas DT series in Mardi gras and Bluegill! I don't use it a lot as I use other search baits primarily. But I do this time of the year when im working edges of flats and the toes of drops. I just crank parallel to the drop and try different retrieve speeds.

Thanks guys, I think because I liked the look I bought them. The lures hooked me instead of Mr.bigmouth.

Do you try nicking bottom in shallow water or drive it in?

I throw it at any cover I see like wood or rocks. I throw it right to the edge of the pads. I rip it through grass. It's a lot more versatile than you'd think.

I've been having a lot of luck on deep diving (10-15ft) crank baits recently. I caught the 6lber in my profile pic on such a bait. I cast, crank them hard so they dive quick and then slow my retrieval WAY down so I am barely turning the handle. You want to feel it bumb off rocks and weeds on the bottom. This has worked on really hot days when the fish move deep. Like Shawn I've also had luck on the square bill sexy shad but more so in the spring.

I've been having a lot of luck with the new river2sea Ish Monroe crankbaits, pretty much their version of the KVD square bills. They're alittle more expensive but they produce and have a good variety of colors to choose from.

I'm going to purchase more selections and mix it up a bit more. Thanks for the advise everyone.

Just starting out I would keep it simple. The best advice I can give you if your starting to throw crankbaits is get a lure retriever. You need to have confidence to throw it into cover. Square bills deflect of objects better, but with two exposed treble hooks you will get snagged. Be prepared to lose baits! So I wouldn't start out with anything expensive. The KVD are good baits for the money. Their Red Eye lipless crankbait is a must have.

I would have to say my favorite crankbaits would have to be the KVD sexy chad and XCaliber chartruese no rattle an raplala clackin rap 07 silver/black with red accents I tend to vary my retrieve based on the pond/lake but I usually stay with a steady medium speed retrieve seems to work well.
