9 times out of 10..... no trailer. I will use one if I need to add "bulk" to the bait so that I can retrieve it super slow

Gotcha, thanks.

Is that the same for spinnerbaits or are you more likely to add trailers for those?

Its weird, you would think the same applies but it's just the opposite. I NEVER throw a spinnerbait without a trailer. x3 on the trailer hooks on both buzzbaits and spinnerbaits

I bought 5 different buzz baits, in different colors. All different sizes. 1/4 ounce, 1/2 ounce and 3/8 ounce. So maybe I'll throw some trailer hooks on two of em' and see how each fishes and what I land more fish on. With or without. Yay for trail and error haha.

been trying those clacker style buzzbaits, with no success.

I tried fishing a buzzbait for a while tonight because of this thread. Tried every type of retrieve and had no luck. I've only caught one fish ever on a buzzbait and he was about the size of my hand.

Spent about an hour with it in places I know hold fish but still no dice. I still cant believe people like these things.

I threw one around quite a bit tonight with no results. Like any other bait some days they just won't eat a certain bait. I walked the dog with an excalibur jimmy and caught 5 out of 6 bass that hit it so there was some topwater action.

the fish will tell you when they want the buzzbait. In my opinion its not the type of bait you should keep throwing if they are not hitting it. When they do want it, its a lot of fun and usually brings in numbers of fish.

You also have to get it moving instantly when it hits the water, you will get more strikes. Love buzzbaits and I find them to have awesome hookup rates.

I definitely tried to get it moving right when it hit the water since I had read about it before. I seemed to do pretty good just kind of starting to crank before it hits the water.

The lake I was at tonight never really seems to have the greatest topwater bite but anyways though..

Love fishing the buzzbait, and have had the most luck with it early in the AM, or when it's overcast. Best with a little chop on the water, but it will sometimes produce when it's fairly calm as well. My personal best came on a buzzbait at 9am with water like glass, go figure.

Play around with the retrive. Slow and steady, burn it, occasional jerks mixed into the retrieve. If they want it, they'll let you know.

Fished one of my new buzz baits today, first time ever really using one. It was a 1/2 Chartreuse & White, I didn't use a trailer hook; just as is. I fished it at two different ponds, Gallows and Maquan, didn't catch anything but had 3 really nice blow ups at it, fished different retrieve speeds. Slower seemed to be what they wanted today at both locations. Sadly just couldn't hook em' always next time though! I am definitely hooked after seeing those 3 blow ups.

Try throwing a double buzzer, great bait for big fish. I have had 25lb bag days on this bait in mass. Don't be afraid to throw it on bluebird summer days with wind and submerged grass beds.
