Hey Guys,

I'm new to this forum and I was excited to hear there are some good bass in Spot Pond and the surround areas (e.g. Dark Hallow) since I live only 10min away! Has anyone been pulling out Bass from these waters this year? Any suggestions for a newbie, beyond trying Straw Point? I read that the bass fishing can be tough around Spot so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, and See You There!!

Spot pond has huge bass, gin clear deep water. It can be tough but put in your time there and it will pay. Smallmouth in there too.

Dark hollow has nice bass too and huge pickerel. I would avoid Dark hollow as it is a gay cruising pond. You will be followed for sure. I would stay away unless that is your thing. lol

Quartermile pond used to have some nice bass as well. I think the winter of 2011 killed off all the fish in there as it did a few other local ponds.

Best bet is Spot pond for sure. Good luck.

Both places are tough, but can be fun.

Take Kman warnings serious about Dark Hallow being a gay hang out, because it is. I been there a lot over the last two years and its pretty weird. There is always old men hanging out in the woods. They just appear out of no where like magic gay elves. There is only a few spots where you can make a cast from shore, and I only bring a frog. One of these days I am going wade out there and hit the spots you can't get from shore.

Spot Pond has big fish but they are tough to find. Try at dawn or dusk when they move up to the shallows.

Hey kman,

Thanks for all the useful information...I can't wait to try some bass fishing this weekend!

About Dark Hollow...I would think it be obvious why I'm there if I'm casting lures into the pond? If I don't catch anything at Spot, then I might have to put on some eye blinders and try Dark Hollow. lol
eye blinders would keep me from getting distracted by anything other than the water directly in front of me.

I need to catch a big bass for my MA Fish Finder avatar photo! Smile

Thanks Again.

Cracked me right up

I wouldn't be around those parts by yourself without something to smack them with. Last thing you need is a gang of "gay elves" getting you in a corner

LOL

I didn't know this forum was going to crack me up so much! Too funny!!! I'm sitting at my work desk trying to not laugh out loud....

If your near Spot, then your not too far from Horn Pond (Woburn), Wedge Pond (Winchester) and the Mystic Lakes all of which have great shore fishing. If you check some of the trips from the MAFF archives you'll find some productive areas.. several "community" holes that folks willing to share since they re-load.

problem with dark hollow is there is no place at all to park. Closest parking is at the Sheepfold in the fells. Between the sheepfold and dark hollow can be a scary place.

I had a buddy that asked me if there were good fish in Dark hollow. I said yes without the warning. He went alone and what has been seen can not be unseen. lol

True story, I had 2 other friends go to dark hollow. They were followed by a few guys asking if they wanted a good time. They said F off, next thing you know they are pinned in on the pond banks and surrounded by 20 guys. It got real ugly and they used knives to back these guys off and get out of there. This is not gay bashing at all, to each their own. Its just some seriously sick individuals lurk in that part of the fells. Be very very careful if you go there.

True. Its weird, I wasn't bashing at all too. When I go there I hike through the woods, climb over rocks, and tromp through the mud, and then I will see a middle age guy wearing all denim with tennis shoes. Clearly not going for a hike.

But there really is only a few spots where you can make a cast. I use a short spinning reel with braid and toss a frog. Lots of weeds and lily pads.

Thanks guys! Went to Spot Pond tonight and first cast off straw point I caught a lil' largemouth bass. Told him to"grow up," and threw him back. Got an okay yellow perch 5min later, followed by a bunch of small fish that were barely big enough to strike the crankbait. I knew I was in the right spot because in 15 min I also "caught" 2 fishing rigs with lures still attached that people had lost!
I'll try again in a couple days.

Once knocked a guy out cold at Dark Hollow for asking me something he shouldn't of, but thats another story!
Dont post here as much as I should, but I fish Spot Pond come this time of the year only because I know the place holds good largemouth and fair amount Smallmouth too. Areas to fish now are the rocky areas anywere around in the Pond. Myself, i've been getting many many follwers the pass two weeks, with a few biters here and there. These two fish I caught this morring down the end near the skateing rink area.

Another thing about Spot Pond is that the fish here LOVE JIGS!
So I hope this help out some, and i'll try to post more
