I'm a gear junkie and the best advice I can give if you are on a tight budget is to go on bassboatcentral.com and look in the rod and reel classifieds. You can get high quality, very lightly used gear at a fraction of retail. I've bought tons of stuff off of there and have had zero issues. Good luck.
