Cinco De Skunko
Took the boys out to Gate 8 Sunday, Cold and Foggie as hell when we got out there. So glad the wind was not around till about 7:30ish. Mark and AEM had bites right away with No fish, and myself and Dan just had a good time talking to each other. Now Badlarry, that's a different story, Poor guy has been trying for a solid year plus to land a fish, and as luck would have it, as he is picking up to goto work, his Pole almost gets ripped out of his hands. I watched the Rod bend in half and then the O so familiar sound, NOOOOOOOOOOO. We never saw the Fish but it was a Fish that pulled back!! There were some BIG Smallies crashing the Shore Line, no takers.
Mark missed a big Rainbow while casting around the bend and Couple of other people had caught a couple of 5lb lakers. Beautifull morning, glad you guys made the trip, even with my FLAT tire!!!!!!
Ha ha guys I am beatin but not broken I have never let a lake get the best of me and I am confident ok may be a little less confident when then when I started, that I will break her.I just figure it will be that much sweeter and may be she is saving a very special catch for me.But yeah Brooksy may be time for some sort of sacrifice I will have to come up with something for next trip. Damn u didn't tell me you ended up with a flat Muskie. That must have sucked after that long walk.Always have a great time even when I don't catch anything there which has been always ha ha other wise wouldn't go back just a gorgeous place with great group of guys catching fish is just icing on the cake!
It was great getting out with you boys again. Had some great bites, but still missed the fish!
Scoobystas, both gates 36 and 14 usually have a ton of good action right at first light. In the short time I have been fishing the Res, the bite seems to slow down and almost shut off by 8-9 in the morning. Depending where you are at 14, there are some good drop offs.
Just added the picture of gangs that went there on last sunday!
I like the title of the post!
Very nice to meet Team Muskie! Great bunch of guys.
Can't believe no one got one.
I'll be back for round 2 on the 18th & 19th. I'll be better prepared and I won't get lost on the walk in!!
Scoobystas - there are bunch of dropoff at gate 8. I think it goes down 15 to 25 feet down. You might fished at spot that is very shallow. You need search it. Gate 14 is similar with gate 8. However, you need to find it. (Look up at map before you go or tied heavy sinker and cast far as you can. Then reel it to feel the structure in the water.)
Guys how's the drop around gate 8? Last Sunday after hate 36, my buddy and I hit up gate 14 by the cemetery and it was pretty shallow, not much stucture and not a single bit for over 2hrs.
I did that earlier in the Spring. Every time I went out the wind was howling. So I offered Mother Nature a Boston cream cake. I have a friend with inside info on Mother Nature that says she has a sweet tooth
Bassinbroosky has good point! It is exactly same event when I was fishing for bluefin tuna. I went four years without bite. Until i decided to sacrifice my $20 buck into ocean. Not 2 minute later, rod bend so hard and I reeled for less 10 minutes before I stuck harpoon on him! medium tuna but pure fat! 175 pounds. Everything was done in less half hour after I released my $20. Maybe badlarry should do something similar as I did.
just an idea (and it may sound silly) but badlarry maybe you should make an offering to the chu gods next time you go fish there. something small like a piece of fruit or something ,toss it in the water (look out for wardens first lol)and pray for them to allow you to catch a fish. it cant hurt and you gotta try something different cause what youve been doing there just isnt working out. beg for the chu gods permission larry!!! lol
