Comment: http://www.telegram.com/article/20120528/TOWNNEWS/120529592&TEMPLATE=TOWNPORTAL A nice short piece about the local Boy Scouts and locals cleaning up the French. 1200 lbs of trash removed. Sounds like they also cleared yhe river of downed trees from the hurricane/tornadoes tha t tore through here last fall.

Comment: I fish and kayak the French all the time. I haven't caught any LMB over 2 lbs in at least 4 years.

The water levels vary drastically depending on the Army Corp of Engineers in Oxford's Buffumville Dam.

Kayaking this river from Oxford to Webster is about 3 miles or 2 1/2 - 3 hrs float. It moves very slow and doesnt have any major obsticals to traverse unless a tree falls.

Tons of sun turtles and snakes to be seen. Lost of small LMB cruising in the small pockets of still water that form all along the river.

Best fishing is definitely between Oxford and Webster. The upper portion of the river (Greenbriair to Buffumville Oxford) is much faster moving and has a couple beaver dams that require portage out and around. A great way to burn a few hours without a doubt. Fishing? Not anything overly special. Ive heard stories but have never seen anything for myself that would suggest this river holds anything huge.
