Nashawannuck is a 22 acre, coldwater pond with 42% trout water by volume. Mean depth is just under four feet; maximum depth is 12 feet; the bottom is 85% muck and 15% sand. The 3.4 miles of shoreline are 40% residential, 60% parkland and cemetery. There are no formal boat launching or parking facilities at this pond, but access is possible for cartop boats and canoes from any of the main roads or the public beach. Water rights are owned by the J.P. Stevens Company which restricts the use of motors. Fish Populations: Resident gamefish include largemouth bass and chain pickerel. Panfish species include yellow perch, longear sunfish, bluegill, pumpkinseed and black crappie. Brown bullhead, white suckers and carp are also present.
This pond is stocked with trout every spring and fall, but the heaviest fishing pressure for trout is from late April through early May. The majority of the largemouth bass are in the 10 to 12 inch range, but sampling revealed some good bass in the 16 -23 inch category. Panfish are plentiful. Yellow perch and black crappie were the most common panfish sampled.
