Memorial Day Frog Bass
Jen and I got out on a local pond around 2:30 today. We got back from NH last night (no fishing booooo), and after 5 hours of painting we decided to take a break and go to a scenic local nearby pond. The wind was tough for the first hour as there aren't really any coves here...just a big oval with grass, scattered pads and the occassional brush pile on the edges. I caught a couple small ones on the Live Target Frog before we shifted about half way back on the opposite side of the pond to escape the wind. I anchored up and about 5 minutes later after a deep cast in the long grass I found larry. She struck after about 10 feet of the retrieve and I snapped my rod back and was locked in! I knew it was a big one and asked Jen to get the net. I kept the rod tip down everytime I felt the fish come to the surface and once it was to the boat Jen got it on the second net attempt (Good thing or she would've went for a swim....JK). A nice healthy 5.7lb bass. About 10 minutes later about 100 feet up the shoreline and a fish that I think was better SMASHED the frog again, but after a few seconds it shook it free...damn! It was great to get out for a couple hours with Jen on such a nice day. We saw Chuck and talked smack for a few minutes before calling it a trip.
Great report! Congrats on the slob. The family that fishes together stays together.
