March Topwater Madness!
Normally I would never throw top water bait in March, but as you all know this year has been very weird and warm. I was seeing bait balls exploding out of the water every 30 seconds. It was pretty cool. The bass were terrorizing them. They were actually tiny bluegill, about the size of a half dollar. All the fish were in this huge shallow flat that is 2 feet at the deepest. There was so much algee in this spot that all you could throw was topwater. I tied on a Yum Moneyhound(Black Lab). For those of you who dont know, It's a weedless topwater bait. It kind of looks like a hot dog. Great bait! So I cast it out and start walking the dog, and WHAM! First cast I land a nice pound and a half largemouth. It was on after that. I would wait to see a swarm of blugill jump out of the water for there life, then cast out past them, and bring it thru. It worked every time. It was awesome. I ended up with about 10 fish in 2 hours. All on the Money hound. They were all between 1 and 2 lbs, but still fun as hell. If my bait didnt eventually fall apart, I would have been out there all day. What a treat to get them on top in March!
