I was fishing here this morning (8/7/15) and I had a fish that I thought was a log come within 3ft of my yak. It was MASSIVE I'd say easy 8lbs but here's the crazy part, it was white and black!!!??? I have no clue what it was carp, koi, albino something??? It was freaking massive though!!
Smallmouth bass can also be caught in this pond. The fishing is OK from shore but will almost always yield small fish. Your best chance at catching something larger is to get out in a boat and either go to an area inaccessible by trail or troll with lures.
Two boat launches are available. One is inside the parking area located on Sanders Rd. The other is on Mill Street between Saltonstall Rd and Berkely Ave. Gas powered motors are not allowed on this lake.
This 45-acre natural great pond, also known as Plug Pond, has a maximum depth of 27 feet and an average depth of approximately 12 feet. Transparency is good at nine feet, and aquatic vegetation is scant. The southeastern and eastern shores are park environments owned by the city of Haverhill, hence shore fishing access is excellent. There is also a city-owned paved boat ramp, located at the southeast corner of the outlet cove, that is suitable for small trailer boats, car top boats and canoes. The paved parking lot can accommodate at least 50 vehicles. Fish Populations: This lake has been reclaimed for trout on numerous occasions and receives substantial stockings of rainbow trout, brown trout and brook trout every spring and fall. It also gets broodstock salmon when they are available. Warm water fish populations are still present, however, including largemouth bass, chain pickerel, pumpkinseeds, bluegills, golden shiners and killifish.
This is one of the most heavily fished trout ponds in the Northeast District; up to 3,000 anglers have been reported fishing here during a single spring weekend! Avoid the crowds by hitting this pond on weekdays in the spring, or anytime during the fall stocking season. The warm water fish populations are too small and pressured to offer much in the way of fishing action.
