Hey every kind of idiotic question but is it a pain in the ass to use a baitcaster from a canoe I use mine in the boat all the time just think it will be hard to get hook set and what not

It's alright for fishing senkos and stuff. I don't recommend crossing the eyes with a jig on a canoe lol

Haha damn I try not to use senkos and wanted to throw a jig haha spinning gear it is

Spinning gear is fine for light tackle up to 1/4 oz and great for skipping brush and docks, if you want to throw crankbaits and spinnerbaits I would use the baitcast reel.
You should be fine with jigs if you use a fine wire hooks and make sure you sharpen them.

Good luck...

Haha thanks yak I'm aware of what my gear can handle I have just only used my bait casting gear from a boat so I was jw now it would be from a canoe

Many of the kayakers here use baitcasters. I use them almost exclusively. It is true that it is harder to "cross their eyes" from a canoe or kayak due to low angle, less leverage but spinning gear has the same problem, so you do your best. I'm convinced that I lose more good fish from the yak than someone fishing from a boat simply because I can't always get a good hookset (e.g. I try to set the hook hard and the kayak slides toward the fish).

I didn't take it that way, I realized it was from a canoe you were asking...

By the way any luck with your Striper trip?

I wish the kid who brought us out is a idiot and didn't want to listen I caught a black sea bass on a slugo haha

Posted Sun Jul 21, 2013 10:02 pm

I had same luck a couple of weeks ago three of us out we caught 1 small striper and 1 sea bass. The sea bass was about 5 lbs.
The guy we went out with has a lobster permit and has 6 traps we pulled in 10 lobster which at least made for a great feast...
