I'm planning to go to wachusett tomorrow ta try ta get a big smallie. I've never been there and don't even know where to start. I don't expect to get many bites but just hoping for one big bite!

Well most here tend to guard their spots like they are gold coins but I like to share. A few ideas:

Gate 8: a long walk in to the large sand bar. Great shallow rock flat at the sand bar and later in year a great 30 foot drop about 60 yards out. Walk left from there about 90 yards (before the visible point from the sandbar) and some nice weedbeds grow up there.

Pump House: Check a map I think its along route 70, but the pump house has a few nice largemouth spots right there as well as smallies near the back of the house.

Gate 35: Pretty much the whole shoreline walk has fish. Pay special attention to the long inlet about 100 yards in and fish the mouth of it.

Good luck!

You are going with the right attitude anyway.Patience is a must.Usually don't get a ton of bites here but the ones you do are pretty awesome.
