Which do you prefer, and why? Do you use both for different things?

Personally I have an Abu Garcia SilverMax baitcast reel that I use for general use. I mainly use it with any lures with a bit more weight to them, as I find myself birdnesting anything smaller like soft grubs or senko's. Possible I may not have the gear ratio set properly?

Anywho, I do have an Abu Garcia spinning reel as well that I typically use with anything my baitcaster can't handle -- pretty much any soft lures, live bait, more small-game fishing or open water, where the accuracy with the spincast doesnt matter as much.

Anyway, I like the baitcast reels more because they feel more natural, and in control in tighter spots. Also you have a lot more diversity with gear ratios anti-locking systems that they have.

how about you?? do you swear by one or use both?

I guess it all comes down to how you fish and what you fish for.

Last year I used baitcast reels for everything. I used my spinning reel like 3 times all year.

I have used spinning reels since I was 9 yrs old.. Yep raised up on the Garcia Mitchell 300... I am 57..(wow I'm gettin old) I have tried the bait casting reels and just do not like the feel of it.
I am very accurate with my spinning reel and rod match up..do not see any reason to change at all. I still have 3x Mitchell's 1 new in the box, 1 very new that I use as a back up and one that I first fished with..it's kind of worn out..lol

I know what you mean pj I grew up on Mitchell 300's also, and still have 2 of them, also a Mitchell 304, which is about 1/2 the size of the 300, I used to use it for trout about 100 years ago, and although I would probably never use them again I can't get rid of them. As far as other rods and reels, I use a combination of everything,I just buy what I feel is right for the application, and sometimes swap the combos with each other, and when I get sick of using them I usually give them to a friend that has a house on Bow lake in n.h. so the kids always have something to fish with
