I'm heading down to the Cape for about 3-4 days towards the end of next week staying in Onset. I notice there are a number of ponds nearby and I was thinking about checking one or two of them out. No boat so this would be shore fishing.
Anyone have any suggestions? I'll be really close to Sand Pond, Dicks Pond, Spectacle Pond, Sandy Pond and Mill Pond.
On an unrelated note I had the best/worst day of fishing yesterday in some time. Hit up the Mystic River in and around where it meets Lower Mystic Lake for about three hours and had to hits the entire time. Water quality looks good and there's plenty of bait fish and vegetation but the bass I saw in the spring are gone; It's been very, very hard to find anything from Mid-June through now. First hit came running a Netbait worm across the pads where a bass came up and nailed it, had on briefly, but lost it in the weeds. Not a thing for two hours when towards 6PM I threw a 4 inch Senko in Watermelon/Red flake onto the pads and started dropping them off the lip of them, this right at the bend before it enters the lake. Felt a fish take it, set the hook and to my surprise got taken on a helluva ride where I could barely get the fish to turn its head. When all was said and done I landed a personal best, easily on the other side of four pounds by my estimate. Was unhooking it right as two other fishermen were walking by so there were witnesses and I hope to get my own photo up soon. Nicest thing other than the fish was that I hooked it right in the upper corner of the mouth and released it back with little damage.
