The good news, finally getting fish to bite. It's been a rough almost two months now for me.
Tackled the 20-30 ft of water column where we were marking schools of big big fish. Brought out some live crawdads for backup.
The bad news......dragging a 6 inch weighted senko and bam! off for a ride it went. 25 feet of water and we are back in the saddle! Finally got the fish to the surface and the hair on the back of my neck stood up when I seen it! The fish in my profile pick was 5lbs, 13oz, and this guy was topping 6lbs no problem. Finally simmered down and to not risk loosing him, we grab the net. As soon as the net bumped the side of the fish, it launched up out of the water like a rocket and my hook and senko smacked me in the face. Talk about heart breaking.....
Caught a few other fish but no doubt, the fish were schooling up when ever we would chart a good thermocline.
They wanted no part of the live crawfish....but they would bite the fake ones. No luck with the deep diving cranks either.
Looking forward to the cooler weather though. This deep water fishing is slow and painful.
