I've seen variable milfoil die off substantially during the summer months during the last two summers. It comes up strong in the spring and starts dying off during the summer, then comes back a little during the fall.
I believe this is due to boat traffic reducing water clarity, heavy tree pollen residue reducing water clarity, natural plankton growth reducing water clarity, higher summer water levels, & native aquatic plants like bladder-wort & pond weed out competing the variable milfoil.

Anyone else seeing these summer die offs?
