looking for some advice

I'm heading up to The Deerfield River for Memorial Day Weekend(Actually deerfield saturday and The Connecticut sunday)TERRA FIRMA...I'm looking for some 'rig' advice. . . preferably from some who've been there more than once in awhile and more so who've landed some BIG FISH
so...'probably a stupid question...but, does trout dough ACTUALLY work?I've been living and dying by Mepps for years and ...they work well & I live in DENIAL of this product "trout dough"('don't know why)...but I've been leaning towards buying some before I leave and don't wanna waste the money if the crap doesn't work...I've got BASS on the BRAIN in the CT...and have plenty of 'spots' and plenty of gear for that place(Thanks to the fellas @ BeaverFeverBaits™®)you guys rock!-------thanks in advance for what I've come to know will be GREAT RESPONSES

I've never been there but I suggest a fishing rod with a reel on it spooled with some kind of fishing line. Try attaching a lure to the end of the line. I hear that works

"trout dough" aka powerbait (PB) works very well for stocked trout. I personally saw a guy catch 3 keeper trout using only power bait in less then an hour. Blackstone recommends using a Gamakatsu C14S egg hook when fishing powerbait.

PB has also been known to catch carp and catfish. PB is not as effective at catching wild trout simply because they are more attuned to eating things native to their environment.

I would not recommend using powerbait to catch bass.

Since you mention that you are going to fish the CT river I would recommend fishing a blue fox 5 of diamonds spoon 5/8oz with a steel leader because the northern pike action is good in the CT river. You might also consider fishings a size 3 syclops spoon as it tends to be a good multispecies lures that may produce for you. Consider replacing the treble hook on the syclops with a better quality treble or even a single siwash hook for better hook ups.

Thanks...and I mean that ...I found myself writing down those tips from Thorn...and as far as Shawn-O's advice uhhh....huh?...I got a pole...I got line ...I got these hook things...some shiny do dads and what not....the question for you now is...how can I tie these on with only one finger left on each of my hands?Since I have just my pinky left on my right hand and a nubby little thumb on my right hand this whole "tying" s*** on thing you're talkin' about is tougher than it looks ya know----JOKE<--------------DISCLAIMER ---do not cut off any of your digits in attempts to show you're the baddest fisherman ever by tying lures on with only two fingers

Ya just about any small mepps spinner or small spoon will work at the deerfield. Try to fish it during a period of rising water (which is easy because the flow is controlled by a series of dams). And as for the stocked trout thing... One day a few months ago, I was fly fishing a small local river that had been stocked a week or two before. I could see all the fish and none of them wanted to bite the normal flies that I would usually use for this river. So later that night I took some brass beads that I use for bead heads on flies, and I tied them to a small hook figuring that it is a similar shape to what they feed them in the hatchery. I bring that with me the next day and what do ya know, I caught so many fish with those brass beads I lost count.

dude .dont turn fishing into waiting. i recently went striper fishing and was lucky enough to get a 32" bass but its soooo boring. just sitting there waching the line, waiting for a bite. throw ur spinners and spoons and fish

See, I don't get the whole "boring" trout dough fishing. I go fishing in the Swift with trout dough all the time (it produces very good by the way) and I don't let it "sit and wait." I cast it up stream and let it float downstream for like 25 seconds then slowly retrieve and during the retrieve is when I normally get the bite. If you're going to use it, I recommend strongly the yellowish colors and the extra scented or normal scent, non of the salmon eggs scent. And if you need a fishing partner let me know ya giant hippie.

This is what I do best of both worlds fish one pole with power bait while also working lures on another pole they do let us use two ya know lol!Try the power eggs white or chartreuse on #10 hook 2 of em trout love em!

hay guys sorry if i offended yas. i wasn,t thinking of river so much as a person sitting on a rock all day waiting for a bite. (just like i did last week.and the people pond fishing with power bait. (to each his own) I hav to pay more attention to the posts before I put my too cents in

I KNEW the feedback would serve some use.Although I must ask...Jimmy where the hell did you go for stripers where ya had to sit for hours in between bites?!It might be a bit early for them to me running all over down there OR Smoke's got ya HOOKED on GIANT SMALLIES NOW hahaha...
I've determined that I'll set my spinning rod up with the "PB" and I'm gonna use my new bait caster set up for lures(can't be but a smaller version of the open faced ocean rigs I've used for years right?)
- I use a similar method to what Zack mentioned down the cape in the canal...throw up flow and after the bait passes, a nice slow retrieve
...I'm kinda stuck here though...we're going out as a group and my buddy is bringing his kids(who want to hike) so...when my wife starts bitchin',"you're not being social enough with everyone" I'm going to use my best fake-a-rooney..."My knee is killing me,I better stay here at base camp and fish"<------thats right I'm already working on my "reasons" I should fish instead of walking around in the woods,not that sweating my nads off instead fishing isn't appealing to me but, ya know...fish? or sweaty nuggets? hmmm...fish it is ! I totally agree. I don't wanna sit there twiddling my thumbs. If I'm shore fishing, I'm moving and casting

Oh I didn't mean to sound offended or anything, I just see alot of people saying its a silly way of fishing so I was throwing my thoughts out there
