Merrimack River Help

Hello Everyone:

There are very few tournaments on Merrimack river MA section. People told me it is not productive for bass fishing. Personally, I have been there once launched at Chelmsford. I caught a few dinks towards the NH area. Anyone catch decent smallie in this river? Thanks.

I haven't done it enough to really give advice but...I have had decent luck with smallies in the Haverhill sections. Tidal water with plenty of small bait fish around, and very rocky bottom much of the area. Find a good drop off edge where the main channel meets the tidal flats, or a few good coves where brush/trees have collected and I've had a few decent small mouth on the few times I have taken my canoe and fly rod out there, not to mention the chance to hit up some good striper action...normally I just carp fish but every so often I'll dabble...

My son and I fish the Mighty Merrimack in the Haverhill area quite a bit. Will have the Tracker out there this weekend. Good smallie fishing, although you have to work the the big boys. Careful if you have a bass rig.....rocks.
