Took advantage of the nice weather and decided to fish the Concord River right by Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. Larrys weren't biting but I got a decent-sized pickerel on an in-line spinner.

Moved to another stretch of the river and ran into a school of good-sized perch (around 10 inches). Caught a half dozen with a curly tailed grub jig and brought them home for supper. Turns out they were getting ready to spawn (the females all had good-sized egg sacks), which seems early even for perch. Must be the warm weather messing with their systems.

PS: fillets tasted real good breaded and fried with a little lemon.

Welcome aboard, and thanks for the report! Can't beat perch fillets some days. I don't know much about perch spawning, but I usually only keep them when I ice fish, and they almost always have eggs that time of year too. Maybe they have a long spawn? or during the winter is when they're starting to make eggs for the spring spawn?
