thinking of getting this rod for a jig n pig set up. looking for a "bass on a budget" rod. i've heard some guys use it. just a couple questions. any comments on the rod? and would it work with a shimano sahara? i'm not looking into going conventional just quite yet.

i could justify getting some in the 80 -100 dollar range if the tourney select rod is just plain crap.

i'd hook it up on a BPS Carbonlite. Real sensitive rod for around $90.00.

I think you are refering to the "Tourney Special" rod. It is im7 graphite which is "ok" in terms of quality, weight and sensitivity. It will be fine for skipping jigs. Not sure how tall you are but for the average height guy this model works best
Handle: C
Line Weight: 6-17 lbs.
Lure Weight: 1/4 - 5/8 oz.
Model: TYS66MHS

It is 6'6" long and medium heavy in action. You definitly do notwant to go any lighter then Medium heavy. You want a good backbone to the rod so you can get a solid hookset.
Speaking of hooksets, you want to "cross the fishes eyes" with your hookset" ( set really , really hard)

The sahara is fine too. You want a reel with instant anti reverse and this one has it. Spool it up with a little mono backing and then 30-50lb braid and skip away!! Oh. buy a quality jig with a beefy quality hook, at least a 4/0 if not a 5/0. The "arky' style head or the heads with a flat bottom are best for coming through wood and brush, "football" style heads are best for rocks and boulders. I use brands like "dirty jigs" "revenge" and "war eagle". Only the last one is availble at BPS.

yeah, that's the one. i was looking into those exact same specs. i was just concerned about the sensitivity on that rod. i'd rather pay a bit extra and not miss any hits if the tourney special is not a good product.

Well you can bump up to a bionic blade. They are im8 and about $80 One moreup is the XPS extream which is im9 and $100. I do not own any of the Tourney specials but I have a couple bionic blades and a couple Extremes and like them

the tourny speacial rods are kinda heavy i had one but sold it to a friend. i didnt like it but thats just me, the extreme rods are pretty nice but i wouldnt buy one

Try the Johnny Morris rods they are a little better quality if you are on a budget BP works................unless u r a pro

after all the research, i ended up getting the 6'6" MH extreme rod. just came in yesterday. it looks nice. i put my shimano sahara 2500 on it. the reel felt a little light for the rod. balance was slightly off.

just wondering if anyone has an extreme spinning rod and what they put on it for a reel. the sahara weighs 5.9 oz. i believe.

The Sahara reels are junk! Return it ASAP! You will find the transition between the bail wire and the roller is not smooth. That little bump will hold the line. If you dont manually put the line into the roller, when you set the hook the bail will release and you will lose the fish. It will also nest on you. The 2 piece bail is junk.
