I recently qualified for a tournament on the Charles River and I think we are allowed to fish the Mystic River too. The tourney is next year and will most likely be sometime in September. Obviously, I have never fished either river. I am looking for some info on how the river fishes that time of the year. Do people target largemouth or smallmouth in tourneys? What is the structure like on the river? How much weight each day will it take to win a three day tourney? I'm just trying to gather as much info as I can, so anything will be useful.

Thanks

Don't bother targeting smallies, even if you are on a section that has them. For size and availability, you are better off going after largemouth. I'd probably go for the Charles over the Mystic, but I don't have a lot of time on the Mystic to back that up. The Mystic gets small pretty quickly.

How is the water clearity? does it change rapidly depending on the amount of rain?

not really - water is murky most of the times
depending more on the wind and current
