Does anyone night fish during the spring? I have very little time to fish during the spring, I know the mid-day hours are usually best. I've had a little luck fishing @ night during the summer. My next best time would be early A.M. hours. Any input would great.

I personally do not night fish...though I have fished until sun down several times.

My suggestion is that if you want to try night fishing that you target catfish or walleye (that is if the reports of walleye in the Merrimack are true).

If you don't mind the bait and wait style of fishing you might hook up with some rather nice fish. But you do have to be much more careful for safety's sake.

Good luck.

i do a lot of night fishing for bass in the summer, specially when its real hot. i mostly throw big black/blue spinnerbaits with one big colorado blade. strike king makes a good one. buzzbaits work well, dark colored chattered baits, basically anything dark colored thats loud and fast. i dnt do to much during the spring but you could try it.

You can still catch them night-fishing in the spring, but it's probably not as rewarding as it is during the summer, for example. My guess is that the lower night temperatures in the spring aren't conducive to a good bite as the water temps are already pretty low.

I've been keeping an eye on night fishing threads on another forum, and it's been pretty meager. Some fish, but not a lot. That being said, catching a fish or two is still more than you'll get by not fishing at all =)

I would give mornings a try, you might catch them feeding at first light.

Summertime night fishing can be pretty fun and exciting. Nothing like hearing a pig splashing on the water and not quite being able to see it until it gets closer to the boat. I like poppers or jitterbugs or torpedos, anything that makes noise. Plus if your boat is angled just right, you can see your lure in the moonlight's reflection on top of the water and then when the fish slams the lure too! Bigtime adrenaline rush for me!

Speaking of topwater/nightfishing, Bass Pro Shops has a huge bin of hardbaits that are right at the front door. They are all under $2 and most are under $1.50. They have a bunch of different colored poppers and walk the dog type baits. It's a great way to stock up since it's easy to lose surface baits at nightime. And they are great quallity, BPS brand. You can get a variety of colors and have backups of each one without dropping a ton of cash!
