Happy no longer February and one month closer to nicer weather Saturday. I am looking to get a decent spinning reel to match a Carrot Stix I got on close out at the end of last season. Initially I was thinking about a Stradic 2500, but am now thinking that I shouldn't have to spend around $140 for a decent, lighter weight (physically), and dependable reel. BPS had a browning Citori that looks decent. What are you guys using and what do you recommend? I am very open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Charlie

Try Shimmano's Shara FD 2500 or 3000 good sturdy reel under $100.00 Dicks sports

I have a Shimano Symetre that is the balls, under $100 too. I also have a Pflueger Supreme, also under 100. I don't think you can wrong with either company.

Volume...glad you mentioned the Pfluger Supreme. BPS has one on sale for around $70. I know Shimano makes decent stuff. I was interested in a lighter reel because the rod is so light. I will check out the suggestions.

meatballs and johnny-bag-a-bass...i haven't pulled the trigger yet so i really appreciate the input. i will be using it for smaller crank baits and swimming plugs that i am just unable to throw successfully with my baitcasting outfits.

thanks!

I purchased a Shimano Sahara two years ago and I love it. I just bought a second Sahara (3000FD) from Cabella's two weeks ago to replace an old cheap reel I had in gearing up for this spring.

i guess i have to weigh in with the shimano crowd too. for spinning reels, it's shimano all the way. the saros is a very good reel in the mid price range.

If you were thinking about the Stradic then perhaps your range is somewhere around $100??.

Now, from everything I have researched here's where I would "invest" that $100.00:

1. Pflueger President 67040x $59.99 (10 bearings, free spool, excellent construction, and drag).

2. Abu-Garcia-Cardinal-500ALBi $79.99 (10 bearings, free spool, great drag).

I like number one because I think its one of the best values to be had. Either way that's "my opinion," and unlike most folks at least I'm willing to admit that it stinks half the time ; )

Bassterrorist - Thanks for the reply. I still haven't pulled the trigger yet so I appreciate the advice. Bass Pro just sent out some super saver packet in the mail...I will see what they have that has been recommended.

Not sure if you made a purchase yet but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.

I like the Quantum Kinetic PTi Spinning Reel. It runs about $100 and is a beast! (Also apparently the newest model is even lighter than the model I had, which seemed pretty light to begin with)

Also, this might be a little lower-end than what you are looking for but I REALLY like my new Bass Pro Mega Tournament Spinning Reel, which is only $30. Its got 8 bearings and runs like a champ! I cant comment on its longevity like I can on the Quantum I recommended but I can say it has performed like a reel worth significantly more than $30 so far.

Good luck!

thanks towelie. i have not purchased yet as we are preparing to move. i am sick of painting and prep work! i figure that i will use it as a gift to me when i am finally finished with the work and the move. so, thanks for your your input.

btw, we are moving to dracut and the merrimack is so close it is silly. man that is a big river and more than a bit intimidating.
