Got married on Nov. 6th, then took a honeymoon in New Zealand. We figured we won't be able to take a trip like this anytime soon, and we don't have too many bills so what the hell, let's go across the world! The country is amazing and the scenery is unreal. Somehow, I convinced my (now) wife that it would be a good idea to try fly fishing out there, as I've heard it is an amazing place for big trout.
The day we chose, unfortunately, greeted us with heavy rains the night before and high winds all day. The sun did come out, but the rivers were running crazy high and very cloudy compared to the crystal clear glacier runoff they're used to! We ended up at a 'Plan B' spot, which happened to be fairly heavily pressured river, thus making the fish quite easily spooked and not interested in most flies, as they've seen them before. These things, along with the fact that I can barely cast a fly rod (let alone into a 25mph wind gust), made it a tough day fishing. We saw probably 15-20 huge trout just holding and waiting for food to come their way, but couldn't get any takers.
I suppose the fact that I was in an amazing country, in nice weather, with beautiful scenery in the background, on my honeymoon, made up for it...
