anyone use fish grippers like lipper tools lipper (not the cheap econo lipper that looks like lippers),boga,or berkerly grippers. was gonna get lippers but read around that it actually damage the mouth of the fish when they thrash around. seems more like the muskies and pikes mouth get damage where its mouth is thinner, i guess. but who uses one? wanna get it for stripers. cause dont want to end up like my brother in law where he hooked his finger when he went to unhook the hook:oops:

I sometimes use a small hand gaff in the surf.If you lip gaff them they will virtually have zero damage.I have never seen anything on the legalness of it but a small hole in the bottom lip doesnt hurt them one bit and they can be released with ease.As far as hooking yourself just get a good pair of pliers for that and that solves that.In a boat a good net does the trick and can be had for alot less than bogas.usually a striper even big ones calm right down in the net.

I have a set of Berkerly Grippers, and they work fine on fish with a thicker mouth(Striper, Bluefish, Largemouth, Smallmouth, etc.). I wouldnt use them on Pickerel, Pike, Muskie, or Trout though.
