not sure about quabin or how your fishing like shore or trolling but at the chu we use a basic slide rig with 1oz egg weights and a barrel swivel then a leader to the hook.We use big shiners x-heavy or even pike.What we do that really helps and imo is key,is to get a worm blower and slide the needle into the shiners vent and give it a squeeze.It may take a try or two to get it right.You'll know you did it right when the shiner inflates and stays that way and doesnt deflate.It doesnt kill the shiner but it makes it like a bobber and it cant swim down or into the weeds.When you slide the needle in keep it close to the bottom of the shiner.good luck
