Egg Patterns in Ponds?

Does anyone have any experience fly fishing egg patterns in ponds? Do you add split shot? Do you just cast them out and let them lie there, or retrieve them back in slowly? I know these egg flies work great in rivers this time of year, but wondering if anyone uses them in ponds and if so how?
